Teaching your students about art is a good idea—here's why:

• It's been proven that early exposure to visual art, music, or drama promotes activity in the brain.
• Art helps children understand other subjects much more clearly—from math and science, to language arts and geography.
• Art nurtures inventiveness as it engages children in a process that aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation.
• Participating in art activities helps children to gain the tools necessary for understanding human experience, adapting to and respecting others' ways of working and thinking, developing creative problem-solving skills, and communicating thoughts and ideas in a variety of ways.

Course description: Students will develop their observation and accuracy skills as they progress through a variety of classroom assignments such as shading techniques, terms relating to these techniques, perspective drawing, texture, depth, composition and volume in their drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramic, and a variety of artistic techniques.

 

Students will develop an understanding of value by applying these elements to drawing, designing skills as they progressively advance through the course. Students will learn how to apply knowledge of composition to the critique of their work and the work of others. This will enhance the students’ lifetime abilities to study and observe art.

 

Students will learn to work as a group and as individuals and become aware of project deadlines and making the time they are in the art room productive. Students will work on all work in the art room, using their time wisely while working on projects will help the student to manage their time and develop real world skills regarding time management.

 

Students will participate in a collaborative fund raising project that consists of a project created by the Art students as a group and use the finished project as a fund raiser for the school/art class.

• Basic Art grades 3rd -8th  (Students will learn a variety of drawing, painting, ceramic, sculpture, 3D etc… techniques.)
