FCA National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society
Induct New Members
On November 4, 2011, thirty-seven students in grades 10-12 were inducted into the Fairfield Christian Academy National Honor Society (NHS) and fourteen students in grade 8 were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). The forty-one students were recognized for outstanding achievement in academics, leadership, service and character in a special candlelight ceremony held in the Worship Center at Fairfield Christian Church attended by parents, guests and members of the FCA school body.
Members inducted into the National Honor Society were Seniors Kaylee Folden, Grant Furness, Amanda
Hammel, Caleb Kandra, Addie Martin and Alison Starner; Juniors Carly Bush, Lauren Edwards and Cassandra Shugert; and Sophomores Kristen Albert, Dane Alexander, Maggie Arledge, Jonathan Boving, Jordan Brake, Tiffany Campbell, Steven Carpenter, Joshua Coleman, Craig Collins Jr., Sarah Crum, Madisen Ely, Austin Green, Casey Hill, Sarah Morton, Austin Mosley, John Myers, Derek Nead, Susannah Rauch, Emily Romans, Elizabeth Skeen, Maci Sollie, Kaitlyn Speakman, Nicholas Spurgus, Benjamin Tobin, Jacob Walker, Anthony Welch, Kayla Wright and Lydia Yount. The new members of the National Junior Honor Society include: Allison Albert, Austin Coleman, Cintia Collins, Rachelle Crisan, Andrew Gerken, Bryce Long, Ryan McKnight, Carissa Nead, Harrison Poole, Jaden Rowland, Abigail Smeltzer, Zachary Sterling, Jacob Thompson and Merideth Young.

2011 Mu Alpha Theta, Math Honor Society
Induct New Members
Twenty-eight 10th-12th grade students became the first group to be inducted into the Fairfield Christian Academy Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. The students were recognized for outstanding achievement in mathematics during the NHS/NJHS Assembly held in the Worship Center at Fairfield Christian Church on Friday afternoon, November 4, 2011, attended by parents, guests and members of the FCA school body.
Members inducted into the Mu Alpha Theta were Seniors Kristen Dewese, Dana Katie Lehman, Isaac Lockwood, Andrew Lundell, Addie Martin and Tessa Putinski; Juniors Alex Carroll, Clayton Christopher, Taylor Clark Truesdell, Michael Collier, Alex Durkin, Halle Hess, Alexander Hoover, Anastasia Huffman, Daniel Marshall, Lyndsay Noland, Hannah Peterson, Lauren Ralph and Lydia Weygandt and Sophomores Maggie Arledge, Michaela Bethel, Tiffany Campbell, Steven Carpenter, Sarah Crum, Austin Green, Kaitlyn Speakman, Jacob Walker, and Tony Welch.
Mu Alpha Theta is an organization whose purpose is to stimulate interest in mathematics by providing
public recognition of superior mathematical scholarship and by promoting various mathematical activities. It is co-sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges. There are now over 1700 chapters in the United States and eleven foreign countries. Colleges and major universities recognize membership in Mu Alpha Theta as an important part of a student's academic resume. Fairfield Christian is one of 37 schools in Ohio and the only school in Fairfield County to have a chapter of Mu Alpha Theta.
FCA Students must have completed Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II and be currently taking a mathematics course and must have earned a cumulative GPA in their mathematics courses of a 3.5 or above. Eligible students must complete and submit the application to the math department and it is then reviewed by the guidance office and math department.

Tiffany Underwood is a senior at Fairfield Christian Academy who has accomplished great feats in the sports world as well as academic. In June 2011, she earned 8th place at the OHSAA state championships for the high jump, a height of 5’2”. Also, this past November, Tiffany was inducted into the Fairfield Christian chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta, a math honors society. For her Senior Project, as the capstone of her senior year, she decided to assist the American Red Cross by scheduling blood-drives, here at Fairfield Christian Church, and she helps people sign in, overseeing the process. Her mentors for this project have been: Becky Knechtel, Todd Stevens, and Jane MacMillan. The units of blood she receives from the drive are then sent to Fairfield Medical Center, to be distributed as needed.
