Introducing "SCRIP": A Tuition Reduction Opportunity

The Scrip program is a large network of vendors who have agreed to return a certain percentage of SCRIP certificate sales (the company's own gift certificates / gift cards) to help families and schools reduce the costs of funding private education. SCRIP vendors include grocery stores, gas companies, retail clothing merchants, restaurants, hotels, cruise lines, airlines, etc. Now school families may help reduce their expenditures by simply purchasing goods they already use at sponsoring stores. The SCRIP company that we have selected (Great Lakes SCRIP Center) is the premier non-profit organization of its kind in the nation.

How the SCRIP Program Works

Families purchase "SCRIP" (gift cards & certificates) at face value from Fairfield Christian Academy

>

Retailer returns a predetermined percentage of the face value to the school

>

80% of the discount difference is divided equally between each FCA student & applied to the media & activity fees

Appealing aspects of the Scrip program are that families do not spend "new money" to benefit from this program. We have established that 80% of all sales profits will be applied to each individual student equally; 20% will be retained by Fairfield Christian Academy to cover the operational costs for the SCRIP program with the remainder going to help underwrite tuition subsidy for other students. Extended family members (e.g. grandparents, etc.) may participate in SCRIP.

Although the various vendors provide a differing levels of returns, the Scrip vendors return an average of six percent to their participating schools. Using six percent as a margin, if a family spends $1,000/month on food, gas, clothing, restaurants etc. $60 would be returned to Fairfield Christian Academy. Of that $60, 80% ($48) would be accrued to be applied to the activity and media fees that are due in March. It is evident how quickly and easily this program can benefit all families, especially if other shopping is done through SCRIP.

Many Christian schools offer SCRIP programs and have found the advantages to their school families to be very significant. Much depends on the participation of our families in planning ahead and learning to use the program to its fullest.

How to Order Scrip

There are four ways to order SCRIP.

  1. Complete a paper form. These are available for pickup at the entrance B attendance office or on-line (SCRIP Order Form pdf version). Drop off your completed paper form in the SCRIP drop-off box that is mounted on the wall just inside the lobby of entrance B. This box is checked by 10:30am each day.

  2. Download the EXCEL spreadsheet version of the SCRIP Order Form. Copy this to your local drive. When it is filled in, it will automatically calculate totals for you. Then, you can e-mail the spreadsheet, as an attachment, to our SCRIP e-mail address: scrip@fairfieldchristianacademy.com.

  3. Order by phone between the hours 9AM - 2:30PM any day that school is open. The phone number is (740) 654-2889 ext. 314.

  4. Visit the SCRIP office (in the Attendance Office located at Entrance "B") during the school day or the Welcome Center before or after school to "shop" from the vast array of SCRIP cards in stock. These cards are available on a "first come, first served" basis.
